Music at MAS

Meningie Area School provides an extensive music opportunities for all students. Instrumental lessons are provided by both DECS and private providers. Currently there are students from Year 5 to Year 12 learning various instruments including piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, and saxophone.

Junior School classes have classroom music lessons as part of their curriculum.

In Year 5 all students learn a brass or woodwind instrument through the special Year 5 music program.  Each week students attend small group instrumental lessons with a specialist teacher as well as one class band session.

Students can opt to continue learning an instrument as they move in to middle school. Students also have the opportunity to be in the Concert Band which rehearses on Tuesdays.

Year 5-7 students are able to participate in the school choir which annually performs at the Festival of Music in Adelaide during September.  Students participate in timetabled lessons as well as lunch time rehearsals in preparation for the September concert.  The Festival of Music also provides the opportunity for Meningie music students to audition for the orchestras that accompany the choir, as an assisting artist as well as for bands to play as a part of a foyer concert at the beginning of each concert.

Students from Reception to Year 10 have the opportunity to perform as part of the school production as actors, singers, dancers and designers.

All Meningie Area School music students have other opportunities to perform locally at school assemblies, as well as at community locations and functions.
